Hurricanes Harvey and Irma left miles of destruction and damage. One of the major problems many faced was no electricity…no lights. Many Americans were faced with having no electricity to power the lights. It’s one thing to have to rebuild after experiencing such devastation, but it’s even more challenging to have to do it in the dark.
Most of us can walk around in our houses in the dark without any problems. I can usually go to the bathroom in the middle of the night without having to turn on a light. But many of us are walking around in the dark.
What do I mean by saying many of us are walking around in the dark?
Many people are living lives of quiet desperation. In order words, the lights have gone out for many people. Many people are in the dark when it comes to understanding their value, living on purpose, and sharing their brilliance with the world.
What about you?
Are you living in darkness?
Are you dimming your light to make others comfort around you?
Are you disconnected from who you really are and what you really want for your life?
The electric companies are working feverously to restore power to those affected by the hurricanes. Many are working long hours to get power back into the homes and businesses so that people have lights so they can see how to start rebuilding their lives.
What about you?
Are you working to turn the lights on—the passions back on in your life?
Are you working to turn on the lights to illuminate your dreams?
If not, then you should be.
As one of the lines in Marrianne Williamson’s poem states, “We are all meant to shine, as children do.” You were meant to shine. You were meant to be a light to others. But the only way for you to shine so others can benefit from your brilliance is to discover your value and live your purpose and passions out loud.
Just as those without lights are waiting for the electric companies to turn on the lights so they can see, there are people waiting for you to shine your light. You are the light some people are waiting to shine so they can see more clearly. You have gifts and talents that others are in need of. But if you continue to play small, not take the time to discover who you really are, and to live on purpose, then you and those around you can’t be better.
