I think I’ve watched the movie Frozen as least three times. Like with most Disney animation movies, they don’t just appeal to kids. The movies offer powerful, life lessons and take-a-ways for adults.
The movie Frozen is known for the iconic song, Let It Go. As I listened to the song, I really thought about some of the lyrics. For example, …
Don't let them in, don't let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know
Elsa sings what many of us feel. We feel we have to hide and conceal who we are. We believe we have to live up to other people’s standards. We continue to struggle with unrealistic limitations we and other have placed on us. We believe we have to hide our imperfections and shortcomings. We continue to believe that somehow perfection is attainable. But in order to own your amazing and be seen and heard for your brilliance, you must do what the song says…Let It Go!
You have to let go of limiting beliefs. You have to let go of your past mistakes. You have to let go of people who longer support the vision you have for your life. You have to let of old ideas of what is possible for your life.
Here all my favorite lines in the song…
It's funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can't get to me at all
It's time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me,
I challenge you to identify one thing you will let go of that you know is holding you back from owning your amazing.
