Mission: Impossible is a series of action spy thriller films based on the television series of the same name, produced by and starring Tom Cruise as Impossible Missions Force (IMF) agent Ethan Hunt. The films follow the missions of the IMF’s main field team under the leadership of Hunt, who is forced to take over after the team is betrayed from within in the first film.
In each film, there are some incredible challenges Ethan must face. For example, in the first film, he is framed for the murder of his fellow IMF agents during a mission gone wrong and was wrongly accused of selling government secrets to a mysterious international criminal known only as “Max”. In the second movie, Ethan sends an agent undercover to stop an ex-IMF agent from stealing a deadly virus to start a pandemic and sell the antidote to the highest bidder. With these types of challenges, it would seem impossible to defeat the enemies.
There is a famous line from the movies that says, “Your mission, should you choose to accept it…” When you are faced with “missions” that seem impossible, what will you do? Will you choose to accept your mission? Your “mission” could be to start a business, grow your existing business, go back to school to finish that degree, or raise your children. Will you accept or decline the mission?
There were many challenges, setback, and tight situations Ethan faced in trying to complete the missions, but he always managed to pull them off. Just like Ethan, I believe we have the ability to face any mission we decided to accept. I believe the mission is possible when we remember two (2) key things.
First, remember to have confidence in your ability to figure things out. Acknowledge and accept that you are faced with a difficult situation, but also trust that you can and will get through it. Instead of getting focused on negativity, remember that you’ve figured things out in the past that were equally difficult or even harder and you can do the same again.
Secondly, get support. Ethan always had a team he worked with to get the missions accomplished. He realized that he could not do it alone. Surround yourself with people who can support your missions. Nobody can win alone. It takes a team.
You have everything you need to accomplish any mission placed before you. Always have faith in yourself. Do not allow negative thoughts or feeling to creep in. Always think positive thoughts and believe in yourself, focusing on believing that the mission is possible.
Until next time…
