3 Essential Strategies for Overcoming Adversity

Life is full of challenges and difficult situations. Everyone is faced with them from time to time. So, when adversity strikes, how do you handle it? But, more importantly, how can you handle adversity better than you ever have in the past?
Here are three essential strategies for overcoming adversity:
Have confidence.
What it really means to have confidence is to simply in your ability to figure things out. Acknowledge and accept that you are faced with a difficult situation, but also trust that you can and will get through it. Instead of getting focused on negativity, remember that you’ve figured things out in the past that were equally difficult or even harder and you can do the same again.
You’re not alone.
Out of the billions of people in the world, you are not facing any adversity that’s completely unique to you. There are other people who have gone through what you’re going through. You are not alone. Don’t allow the adversity to isolate you or to cause you to think that you are alone and can’t get support.
Get support and ask for help.
As soon as adversity strikes, ask for help. Asking for help can take can come in many ways, from talking to a trusted friend, meeting with a spiritual guide, or even meeting with a counselor. Openly communicating and sharing what you’re going through or listening to others about how they’ve dealt with a similar issue, can truly help you. The key thing to remember is that you’re not alone as you face challenges and adversities.
OYA Challenge
When faced with your next challenge or adversity, write down 3 things you did in the past to overcome a similar situation. By doing this, you will increase your confidence that you have everything it takes to overcome the current adversity.
Accepting that everyone faces adversity at some point in life is a critical mindset to sustaining success in life. Accept the fact that we can’t avoid adversity, but we can determine our attitude and the actions in handling the challenges. We can move forward by facing the adversity and accepting it as necessary in our overall growth and development in being confident and successful in life.
